This text, although mostly treated as a comedy and a box office success with the idea of making misogyny funny and harmless, also offers a possibility of social and political activism and reflection about the contemporary Western society which “tames” any kind of real difference. The focus of this performance is wider than the focus of the text itself ; this interpretation treats Catherine as not just a women , but a representative of one of the numerous marginalized social groups in today’s world . This time the “Shrew” is placed on the stage with exclusively male cast, which was one of the Elizabethan theater conventions, but also a way to treat the subject of gender and artistic representation not only in contemporary world but also in contemporary theatre.
